Wow – you all have been fantastic! Thanks so much to all of you who have ordered Skirties, or emailed me to tell me how much you like my site! That’s been terrific – and I really appreciate all your kind notes!
One question keeps coming up – so I’ll just go ahead and answer it here. Yes – I’m hoping to expand into dresses. But before I fire up and start having dresses produced we’ll just see how it goes with the Skirty. But I’m so glad to hear from all of you who like the dresses – it makes me feel like there might be a market for them!
Here comes another of my regional observations. First of all, there is now at least one Skirty in 3 countries. (Way to go Australia!) But my regional observation this time is about our own dear 50 States. I had a feeling that this might be the case . . . and it’s turning out that I was right. The South is absolutely thumping the rest of the country in their appreciation of the Skirty. I’ve gotten orders from a number of different states – and the northwest is holding it’s own, the Midwest definitely has a presence, and the northeast has just a pitiful showing so far. But the South has everyone beat hands down. Are there more women in the South who are still concerned with the concept of being a lady? Do modesty and decorum still actually exist down there? Is it striking some sort of chord with the Southern Belles? Whatever the reason for it, I wholeheartedly approve of their enthusiasm – so go for it you southern girls!
One of the glorious attributes of the gospel is revealed in the way God raises up the lowly, bestows honor on the unlikely, works good out of the worst circumstances, and uses great trials to bless His special ones. Christianity is no religion for the proud and haughty, for it contradicts man’s fleshly wisdom and carnal reason. Who would have thought the Messiah of God would arrive on earth from the womb of a lowly young girl? As we look at Mary, mother of our Lord, we cannot separate her character from her remarkable circumstances Continue reading ‘Blessed are You Among Women’
I can tell by the look on your face that you’ve been agonizing over the question of what to get all the little girls on your Christmas list. You know, daughters, granddaughters, nieces, cousins, and the girl whose name your daughter drew for the Christmas party. Well good news! I have an idea for you!
There is a downside however, and that is that you have to buy it from me. I know, I know – as embarrassing as it is, I am trying to sell you something. But then again, it’s awful cute and downright useful – so why not sell you one?
It’s called the Skirty, and is exactly the answer you’ve been looking for. It’s also the first product available from my new business, Amoretti.
But back to your Christmas list, these really are the bee’s knees – and I’ve become quite addicted to them. I won’t let my girls leave home without them. So zoom on over to the website and pick one up for all the girls on your list! www.amorettidesigns.com
Have you noticed how Christmas is becoming more and more intimidating to unbelievers? Most magazines refer to the “holidays,” afraid to mention Christmas by name. This is not because the world thinks Christmas is irrelevant, but its power and potency scares them. That’s why they keep moving away from saying “Merry Christmas” to saying limp-noodle things like “Season’s Greetings” or “Happy Holidays.”
But the world can no more stop Christmas from happening than they can prevent the sunrise or the rain. Christmas is coming, like it or not. And the fact that the world is getting more and more annoyed by Christmas is a good sign that we are doing something right. I say, let’s ratchet things up a bit. More singing. More gift-giving. More lights. More sugar cookies and (as my husband says) more fudge!
We might wonder how something as harmless as Christmas could be so intimidating to the unbelievers. But asking that question reveals that we don’t yet understand Christmas ourselves. God becoming a baby and being born in a manger in Bethlehem and announcing it to shepherds via angels singing in the sky is a spectacular story. It is our story and we should never tire of telling it, singing about it, and reminding one another of it with cards and gifts and fat stockings. This is OUR story. God has given this to us, and this story has changed the world forever.
Sometimes Christians complain that Christmas is too commercial. But why should it bother us to see the world celebrating our holiday in a worldly way? They can’t help it. Rather, we should chuckle with delight that “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” is playing over the speakers in the grocery store and “Joy to the World” is going full blast in the aisles at WalMart.
C.S. Lewis wrote a wonderful essay about this called “Christmas and Xmas” which you can Continue reading ‘Who’s Afraid of Christmas?’
