One of the central benefits of worshiping on the Lord’s Day each week is the way this orients us for the week. Being the first day, it lays a foundation for the following six. And when we worship our Creator, we are doing what we were created to do.
Having our sins confessed, hearing the Word preached, singing praises to God, sitting down at His table to eat — all these things do far more than we realize. It is as though our hearts are tuned like an instrument that has gotten a bit off during the week. Or we are set straight again after drifting off. We are put right, given our bearings again so we know where we are and where we are going.
All this to say, the Lord’s Day worship is the most important thing we do as Continue reading ‘Set Straight Again’
Is it just me or did the Presidential election just become a lot more interesting? I never would have thought McCain could make himself so much more palatable. Busting out the mother-of-five never seemed like such an ace up the sleeve.
I made a comment in a post a while ago (called Stick to Your Duties) that God always blesses obedience and He never blesses disobedience. I want to clarify this a bit more.
Let’s say that you cheated on a test. You feel guilty and sick about it, but you keep telling yourself a story about how it really wasn’t cheating, that you probably already knew that was the answer anyway, etc. But you continue to feel miserable, and you find yourself snapping at your friends, being irritable with roommates, etc. In other words, the Holy Spirit is convicting you, and one sin leads to another. Now you may go on to lead a decent life, but you will be forfeiting one of God’s chief blessings, a clean conscience. He will still cause the sun to shine on you and your electricity will probably still work, but you cannot say that God is blessing your obedience at that Continue reading ‘A Clean Conscience’
So this morning my girls were trying on my shoes and goofing around, when I overheard this great game plan from two year old Daphne:
“I’ll be the mama, o.k. Lina? And you can be the cow.”
I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t look forward to grand-kids. And, I have to say, it is even better than they all say it is. For the past ten years or so we have had a baby or two to love on, and it has been very kind of God to give us another dose of babies after we have seen our own grow up. And after the baby stage, it keeps getting better.
But anyway. Despite the glory and joy of it all, grandmothers are still prone to fleshly temptations, just like we were when we weren’t grandmas. Big news, I know. If only the gray hair would bring perfection with it, wouldn’t that be nice? But, sorry to say, so far it hasn’t for me or anyone else I know.
So I am about to address one of those fleshly temptations, one that I have heard about quite a bit from young mothers, and I have seen first hand. It is this: grandparents hate to see their little adorable grandchildren receive correction and discipline from their parents. I’m not sure why it is so hard for grandparents, especially Christian grandparents, who really do believe what the Bible says about a father Continue reading ‘Grandmotherly Temptations’

So, it is one hour before midnight in our time zone! I did not lapse on my promise for a Monday giveaway! What we have up for giveaway is a splashy little man onesie in construction yellow with a silver dumptruck stencil. It is not actually the one in the picture, but it is the same yellow and the same stencil, just silver dye. I was unable to post a photo of the real prize because of some great memory card snafoo, involving corrupted files and very important problems, so this will have to do ya. You can just take my word for it that it is wicked cute, handsome, and striking. It is 100% cotton in a 0-3 month size, and it will look perfect on the little man’s man in your life. If you want it, leave a comment, and we will choose a random number on Friday.
