Monthly Archive for November, 2008

It’s almost a miracle really.

I finished! With a whole day to spare too! This is our second highly intrusive Advent calendar, but I am glad to say that it is even cuter in person. Well, in the morning we’ll be ready!

Dandelion Fire

Turns out that my son is giving away a copy of Dandelion Fire (the sequel to 100 Cupboards)  here. So hustle right over and answer his question in order to enter the contest. This is one of his advanced reader copies, because, as you know, the book won’t be released until February.

One year old x 2!

Here are my babies, getting warmed up for a day of birthday fun! I can’t believe they are a year old already, and we are all still alive! Hurray!

Little Surprises

One of the sweet, spontaneous traditions that follows the benediction at our Sunday worship service is the attack of the grandchildren. As soon as my husband finishes the benediction, our grandchildren take off to greet him as he descends the steps. He usually just sits down on the stairs to give each one a hug. The grandkids are learning to let the smallest go first, and sometimes non-grandchildren in the congregation join in the festivities. But some of the little members of the congregation see what’s going on, but are too shy to run up. Now follow closely.

100 Cupboards Under the Tree

In case you do yet have your very own copy of 100 Cupboards for your children, it is a great gift for Christmas. Go here to have a peek in the cupboards, and remember that the sequel, Dandelion Fire, will be coming out in the new year. If you want to leave a comment here, I will enter your name in a drawing for an autographed copy. Yes, I am actually conducting my very own contest. (Bekah is having such a good time over on her Fortnightly Purse that I couldn’t resist.) We’ll pick a winner on December 10, so you will have it in time to put under your Christmas tree!

Advent Jammies

I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving day and that you are still basking in turkey leftovers. We are slated to have turkey panini’s tonight a la my daughter Rachel. We are celebrating the twins’ first bday today! We even got up at 4:45 a.m. and went to some of the early-bird sales (first time ever) and felt like we participated in the great national shopping event. Amazing!

But now that we are just a couple of days away from the first Sunday of Advent, I thought I could safely share a few of our celebratory traditions. Since we have a Sabbath dinner on Saturday night, we will be kicking off Advent tomorrow. After dinner each week I have a little Advent gift for the grandchildren. So tomorrow night they will get their Christmas jammies. I want them to enjoy them for the whole month of December, so that’s why they are the first Advent gift.  I also give each family an Advent calendar, the kind you can buy Continue reading ‘Advent Jammies’
