I love those verses from Habakkuk. Those verses have been balm for my soul for many years during all the different seasons in life. I like to remind myself that Habakkuk is NOT saying that the fig tree will NEVER blossom, nor is he saying that there will NEVER be fruit on the vine, or food in the fields, or that there will never be olives again and so on. What he is saying is that right now, during this season sent in God's Providence I am not seeing those things. And that is totally different. There is hope for future fruit and future blossoms. Praise be to God, for His mercy endures forever.

I've been able to buy meringue powder from the bakery departments of local grocery stores. It's less expensive than buying the powder packaged for cake decorating. It's handy for baking and for making Royal Icing without using fresh eggs. Royal Icing is wonderful for gluing gingerbread houses together (but hard as a rock if you want to eat the house later).

Speaking of Christmas things... (and I'd email this to you, but I don't know your email), I would like to make the Christmas cookies like we iced at the Women's Evening Christmas event.

As I was at the store today picking up ingredients, I cannot for the life of me, find meringue powder.

I don't know who made the cookies, but wonder if you could help me figure out where one might purchase meringue powder?

My email is simp0491(at)gmail(dot)com.

So good!! Better herbs and joy then meat and bitterness.

Great post, I laughed with many thoughts in the back of my head. Finances can have a real damper on Christmas but I tell you what, I think it is wonderful for kiddo's to get our time for Christmas. Open a present that insides contains a card which says "Cocoa with Dad." We do this for our Advent and it really has become extremely special for our kids. They actually like the gifts of doing something with mom and dad better then the "stuff". As a mom, that is really satisfying. :)
Merry Christmas!!

Thank you so much for the reminder. You caught me in the throes of tense muscles and fits of anxiety. You are so right. My kids would rather have me do less and enjoy it with them than to do more and make us all miserable.
