Oops – sorry. Not telling. You have to head over to the Fortnightly Purse to find out who the winner is! Rude, yes. But there it is.

And even if you don’t care who the winner is – if you’re feeling that fatalistic that you just KNOW it wasn’t you even without looking . . . well you should go over there anyway and have a pop at the next purse. I mean you never know. If you hold your breath and think happy thoughts then you just might find yourself the proud new owner of . . . no, nevermind. You’ll have to go over to find out.

Chicken Soup for Hungry People

jan09-007.jpgThis recipe was born of an accidental mix up of a legendary family recipe (I mixed it up because it was my husband’s family and I did not know better), but the mix up was so delightful that we have never done it right since! Here is the basic concept – chicken soup (with or without noodles), served right on top of a pile of smashed potatoes. Besides being delicious (first you’re just eating soup, then it gradually starts turning into more of a potato soup, then you are eating potatoes with a fabulous chicken gravy… you get the point), it is also exceedingly practical. This makes it possible to have chicken soup as a man’s man meal. Unless I am greatly mistaken about the nature of hearty foods for serious eaters, I don’t think that chicken soup was formerly allowed into that category! Anyway, this is a simple and successful way to feed people. It is pretty too, and with a baguette and maybe salad on the side, it makes for great comfort- company food.  Try this out, and I’ll bet you that the children eat more than you knew they could!  Continue reading ‘Chicken Soup for Hungry People’

Innovation

Daphne is our two-year-old, and one of her very lovable personality traits is improvising. I first noticed this when she and Lina were trying to play a game that requires marbles and couldn’t find any (because I hide things like that). She said, “I know where some are,” and ran away. When I followed her, I found her biting a sort of decorative ball off the top of some large paperclips. She had several loose already. Anyway, this picture below is one of her hot new fashion ideas.  And if you ever run into some fabric you really want to embroider, you won’t be unprepared!

Toot Toot!

It is not exactly tooting my own horn, but I have to be pleased when someone else is tooting about my son’s book. So look here for a fun review of 100 Cupboards.
