Clay is a reference to man. So Rutherford is saying that the multitude loves this present world and their fellow man above Christ. Jesus said we were to leave it all behind to follow Him. The irony of choosing fallen man and the fallen world over Christ, is that when God remakes it all, those who have loved Christ above all else, will have the world too.</description>
