Some Random Yarny Deeds

Hello! It has been quite a while and I am very sorry about it! I just went through another one of those phases where I compose mental blogposts, but never actually do it. I have a picture (dark and ugly, that’s why you never saw it) to prove that I thought of you when I made pumpkin pancakes. But more importantly – I am blogging right now! I felt like I should share that I finally made a sweater for Lina, and a random toy for Titus. Here they are – isn’t that alien hilarious?

The pattern for the sweater is one I made before called “drive-thru”  by Wendy Bernard. The softie is called “22 the alien”, and you can buy both the patterns through ravelry if you feel so inclined. I am thinking he will look pretty cute sticking his head out of the top of a Christmas stocking. And speaking of Christmas stockings, I just realized today that Blaire doesn’t have one yet. And speaking of Blaire….. this little fireball of cuteness must be where all my energy is going lately – quite literally!

  1. Oh, I really want to learn to knit! All of these cute things are so inspiring. I got a book to teach me how and asked a friend to help me out. I do great, until I mess up! At that point I have no idea what to do. Picking up a dropped stitch is not working out very well for me so far. I’ll keep trying! Keep posting these inspiring pictures. I need them :0)

  2. The sweater and the little alien are adorable – but our favorite is the baby! :) Both my 6 year olds, Isabella and Sophia walked up and said, “Awwwwwwww”.

Isabella said she wished she was our baby. 😉 Hang on tight to her!

  3. I’m really spoiled with people in my life who knit stuff for me and my kids, so the incentive to learn is not so great. Though I reckon that little alien is good enough reason to get my act together and finally learn to knit!

  4. Love the sweater, and the alien is adorable. My three year old son would LOVE it!

Your baby is precious. Enjoy her and revel in this time you have with all the little ones. Blog when you can, no worries, no pressures.

  5. I love that sweater in those colors. Super cute, just like the sweat-ee. And the baby. And the alien.

Seriously, thank you so much for writing that book. I can’t wait to read it. Thanks for sacrificing knitting time for all of us. Do I get free copies for suggesting “Life in the Trenches”? No? That’s right, I stole it from you anyway. Okay, I’ll buy a bunch then. :)

And I have 5 11/12ths stockings to make. I’m going with giving them as wedding gifts to my kids.

  6. Oh, to knit like that…sigh. :-)
What a cute sweater and I love the alien! Something to knit for boys (must remember that). And even more darling are those plump little cheeks. Too much, I’m tellin’ ya. :-)

  7. I love the alien and (along with Valerie) think the backpack is the best part. One of those things that is extra hilarious because unexpected.

  8. Rachel, can you recommend some websites for buying better yarns (cascade, rowan, etc)? I’m in a town with only a Michael’s and Hobby Lobby, and the Red Heart bargain brand isn’t cutting it anymore!

  9. Rachel,
Curious what type of yarn you used for the sweater? Did you follow the suggestion of the pattern?
    Thanks!
