An Open-Book Assignment

My father-in-law writes a monthly newsletter for Community Christian Ministries, and I thought I would share the contents of his July issue. He called it “an open-book assignment.” Here it goes.

1. Read chapters 1 through 3 of Ephesians several times, listing everything that the believer has in Christ. Thank God for each of them.

2. Do the same thing with Colossians 1 and 2.

3. After you are fortified with all of this wonderful truth and are rejoicing in it, then read Ephesians 4-6 and list all of the commands.

4. Repeat with Colossianss 3-4.

You will find that the commands are not impossible because of where you are in Christ.

  1. The assignment looks really interesting, what caught my attention most, though, is that your page represents 3 generations of faithful ministry. That in and of itself is a blessing and encouragement.

  2. Thank you, Nancy. I think this is very timely for me. I’ve been looking around at life lately and praying for the Lord to give me strength to accomplish all the things I see He is setting out for me. I admit I have had moments where I did indeed think to myself “I don’t think I can do this.” But the Spirit of God is always there to remind me that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” and that in Christ “we are more than conquerors.” I just don’t always feel like such a conqueror, even though I know it to be objectively true.

  3. Nancy. I want to thank you again for recommending your father-in-law’s assignment. It is very powerful! My lists are long and they have brought me such hope in Christ. Thank you, dear friend.
