So I just finished up a batch of homemade ice cream for the bday man, and I suddenly remembered that his love for the homemade stuff is of old!

  1. what kind did you whip up, mrs. wilson? we just made chocolate peanut butter…and in june is was vanilla bean for 80 people. ๐Ÿ™‚

    greetings to you!

  2. Hi Jen,
Yours sounds fab! Yum! But 80 people? Yikes! Mine was a very simple vanilla that worked perfectly with strawberry rhubarb pie. And when I say simple, it couldn’t be easier really. No cooking involved.

    3 quarts half and half
    3 cups sugar
    4 tsp vanilla
    1 tsp salt

Mix up the sugar with one cup of the half and half…then add the rest of the ingredients and chill. Then put it in the ice cream maker and go! We love this one, which is convenient for me because no custard is involved.

  3. You mean, he actually had more than buzz cut hair? I have been coming to CC since 90. He has NEVER had long hair since I have known him!

  4. thanks, mrs. wilson!

yes, we (joe and i) have taken to cooking a feast each season for our church, and this summer, the fare was all-american. so of course there had to be homemade ice cream with the rhubarb pie. we made 80 servings with one very longsuffering ice cream maker. but, making the custard for that much cold stuff was quite the adventure. so, it’ll be greatly useful to have a recipe that omits the whole custard thing. ๐Ÿ™‚
