Thomas Watson, said “A holy heart knows there is nothing lost by obedience” (Religion Our True Interest). He gives this example: “A heathen exercising much cruelty to a Christian, asked him in scorn, what great miracle his master Christ ever did? The Christian replied, ‘This miracle, that though you use me thus cruelly, I can forgive you.'”
Wow. Just wow. That is powerful and something that I needed to hear today. Thank you. We’ve told our boys before that their obedience is an offensive weapon against the bad dragon (Satan). Every time they obey God by cheefully saying, “Yes Mama!”, they are striking a blow.
Your family’s obedience has not been lost on mine. I remember a movie quote something like, “The first one through the wall gets the bloodiest.” The Wilsons joyful handling of opposition makes the fear of loss a little less threatening for those behind you. Thanking God again today for sustaining your courage and for your generosity with it.
And sin whispers that I do lose by obedience, like a cancer whispering that I will lose by the surgeon’s knife.
I wish there were like buttons! LOVE the idea, Claire — we use the dragon analogy, but that’s a great addition! Danielle — I totally agree. The Wilsons’ handling of opposition is teaching me what to do, even from across the country. And Rita — yes! I like your comment too. 🙂
“A holy heart knows there is nothing lost by obedience”
“And certainly, the mistakes that we male and female mortals make when we have our own way might fairly raise some wonder that we are so fond of it.”
― George Eliot, Middlemarch
Love this! And your quote Danielle! What a trail the Wilson family is blazing. Very inspiring to those who follow.
Much love and prayers!
Looking forward to eating more pop-corn with you, dear Friends!
