In honor of our country’s independence, we did our patriotic duty and made pies and homemade ice cream. The Merkle girls each made a pie, and here they are in front of their masterpieces: Jemma with her apple pie, Hero with strawberry, and Bel with her lattice strawberry-rhubarb. They were fantastic!
Rachel also made pies, just so we would be sure to have more than plenty, and her kids all helped in meaningful ways, don’t you know? Here’s the complete lineup:
And I especially like this patriotic picture below. Even the ice is American!
Mmm…does my heart (and my imaginary taste buds) good over here in England. Missed the fourth foods this year! Good job, girls, I’m so impressed!
Could you please e-mail me a slice?
Good job! Nothing like homemade pie, and ice cream.
Beautiful!!
And the pies don’t look too bad either. π
Great job, girls!
I was thinking that, too, Kelly. Pies + girls + roses = a trifecta of purdiness.
Way to go Jemma, Belle, and Hero! Nice work girls! My first ever strawberry rhubarb pie was Bekah’s and it was the best. Happy (late) fourth of July to you all.
Impressive! I couldn’t make a pie that pretty – and I’m 24! Kudos to your lovely girls, they clearly follow in their talented Mama’s footsteps. π
This makes me look forward to when my girls can do (delicious!) things in the kitchen by themselves! Hopefully all the ‘helping’ me now will bear fruit in a few years. π
Looks wonderful. Hope the pies tasted as good as they look.
The pie plates that I have claiming to be deep dish have nothing on those in the picture! I think I’m more envious of those fab dishes than the pies! Where did you find such beauties?
Bess,
The ruffled-edge ones are Emile Henry from Williams-Sonoma and the others are Fiesta ware. There you go!
Thank you, Mrs. Wilson!
Beautiful!! Now I know how to make my strawberry pie look prettier!
I am one of five girls, and it made me happy thinking of how much fun those sisters and their mama must have had in the kitchen. π
I get nervous each time I look at the photo of the pies on the railing…you guys really like to live dangerously, don’t you?!?
Love all the pies — dessert must have been delightful π
Mmmmmm! Strawberry-Rhubarb….my favey! π
