He Is Risen!

The angels met the women very early on that first resurrection morning at the tomb, and they said, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ And they remembered His words” (Luke 24:5-8).

What a strange kind of greeting: “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” And what a great question! We might ask ourselves such a question today: Why are we looking for Jesus in the wrong place? And next the angels say, “Remember?” How often we forget what He has told us!

One of the common ways we look for Jesus in the wrong place is by looking for Him in our feelings. Sometimes I hear women say, “I just don’t feel like Jesus is close.” But He never told us to look for Him in our feelings. He didn’t say to meet Him at the tomb, He said to meet Him in Galilee. If we think we must look for Him in our feelings, we can try to “do” certain things that will generate a spiritual feeling to reassure ourselves. We have not remembered what He told us.

He has told us where to find Him. Remember? He is Risen! We are raised with Him, and He is above, sitting at the right hand of God (Col. 3:1). This is why we “seek those things which are above, where Christ is.” Jesus dwells in us through His word (Col. 3:16) and helps us remember all He has told us. So we “eagerly wait for the Savior” (Phil. 3:20) and look for Him in the Word, in the Supper, and in the weekly celebration of His triumph over the grave. And when we look for Him there, we are obeying what He told us to do.

Abundant Life

4 / 5 / 14
By Nancy Ann | Filed under Uncategorized | Tags: Easter

Jesus said, “I am come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

Christ came to bring us spiritual life where there was spiritual death. Not only did He bring life, but He brought life plus. Big-sized life. More life. Life is good, but abundant life is better.

Here I’d like to look at just three aspects of this abundant life: living fully, living completely, and living comfortably.

1. In Christ we can live fully, the way He intended in our creation. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). And in verse 16: “And of His fullness we have received, and grace for grace.” Jesus is full of grace and truth, and we receive his fullness. Do you feel empty? Receive His fullness, grace upon grace.

2. In Christ we can live completely, because we are made complete in Him.  “In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him…”

“Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good Read More

The Easter Feast

4 / 5 / 12
By Nancy Ann | Filed under Uncategorized | Tags: Easter

With Easter Sunday just around the corner, it’s not only time to be getting the groceries home for our Easter menu, but also time to be reminding ourselves why we do this in the first place. Why do we go to all this trouble anyway? Because our feasting is celebrating before the Lord, and He is pleased when His people rejoice together.

God Himself is the ultimate host. He loves to spread a feast for His people. He prepares a feast for us, and He prepares us to come to His table. He welcomes us, fills and feeds us, sings over us, and all with joy. We are a people greatly blessed!

God likes noisy celebrations: “The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous” (Psalm 118:15). Imagine what it would be like to walk down a street Easter afternoon and hear loud parties every few houses. The voice of rejoicing and salvation!

So as we make preparations for this upcoming Easter Feast, we should think about how we can imitate our Heavenly Father. What kind of party does He like to attend? Does He like sitting at our tables? Is there peace and joy in our homes, or is there stress and conflict? Over the years, I have stumbled in many ways over the Sabbath preparation. I have fussed, either out loud or in my heart. I have confessed many sins regarding the weekly feast. But each time, God reassures me that I have another chance the following week to do better. I Read More

Easter Beginnings

4 / 3 / 124 / 3 / 12
By Nancy Ann | Filed under Uncategorized | Tags: Easter

By now I’m sure you are all well into your Easter preparations! My fridge is bulging with Easter Dinner ingredients, and the guest list is closing in on forty. I know that sounds like a bunch, and it is, but more than half of that is made up of our children and grandchildren. Everyone will be bringing contributions to the BIG feast!

I wanted to show you this little centerpiece that I put together last week for a luncheon, and then I used it the following day for a church ladies’ brunch, and later that day for Sabbath dinner. The whole thing came from Rachel’s storehouse of ideas. She cut me the laurel leaves from some of her bushes, and told me to stick some lemons on skewers and pop the whole thing in a vase. It took all of a minute to put together, and it’s now almost a week old and still going strong. So if you’re looking for a quick, pretty idea for your table, here it is, courtesy of Lizzie.

The Easter Buffet

4 / 24 / 114 / 25 / 11

Luke and Rachel just bought a house, and they moved in a week or so ago….and hosted our Easter feast today! This buffet table/unit is from their La Bella Vita shop (the old counter), and it works so well loaded up with the Easter fare. Kids are in the background and Heather (who never takes a bad picture) gives the camera a smile. You should have seen the crazy egg hunt in the back yard: thirteen cousins running around while two baby cousins watched with interest.  Hope you all had a blessed day!
