Random Bits

foodnbooty-048.jpgSorry for the repeat for those of you who are following Lady Kirkbay, but here is a bib I just finished knitting for Chloe. It uses the stitch pattern from my favorite dishcloth, but with the necessary mods for a bib. I think it turned out pretty cute.

So, life has been a bit of a hootenanny over here. The other day I was in the back of the house and Lina yelled from the living room, “Mom, do you remember Daphne?” I responded, that I did, and she said, “Well, she’s kickin’ me!”

Also in great quotes from the younger Janks, the girls were arguing in the back of the mini van about whether it was Moses’ new mom or old mom who was sad. Lina announced that his new mom was a fairie. I jumped into the discussion and said, “No, she was a princess of Egypt.” Lina did not see my point. “But her Daddy was a Pharoah.”

I haven’t shared any recipes in a while, but trust me that I haven’t forgotten. I have been cooking a lot of dinners from Cooking Light (I really love their recipes, and can’t recommend them highly enough). New family favorites include the pork tenderloin kebabs, sun-dried tomato chicken salad in pitas, and the strawberry/oatmeal/white chocolate cookies. I have a couple new ones to try this week, so we will see if they make it to the repeat list. We are huge fans of Pork Fajitas with mango (although I use more lime juice, cumin, and soy sauce, and top with avacado too), Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Thai Beef Tacos, all of which I originally made from Cooking Light. I will try to link to the online recipes, but you can find most of them with a simple search on the Cooking Light website.

Bumpin’ along

By lizziejank | Filed under Uncategorized | Tags: From (Rachel) Lizzie

While Mom was pulling out the lawn furniture I was taking my troop out on a much needed (nap-hookie) walk. We had gone quite a ways and I asked the girls how their legs were doing. “Are they tired?” I asked. Lina (3), from the right side of the stroller said “mine just keep bumpin’ along”, and Daphne (2) said “I could take my pants off.”

We aren’t just alive…we’re happy!

babies-004.jpgHere are the babies at four months. It isn’t your imagination – Titus really is that much bigger. Also, don’t panic about them both being in the swing, as that was only for the photo shoot. Besides, they were wanting to be together, and I was wanting to sing “zippity doo dah” to get some smiles for the camera! They are just becoming buddies now, finally noticing each other. Titus puts his hand on Chloe’s cheek and she smiles, they grab hands and then fight over who should chew on the four-hand fist, and end up just taking turns or putting their heads together so they can do it at the same time. It’s the sweet stuff all right!babies-012.jpg

A note of encouragement

With all the encouragement we have been getting to celebrate Easter in a big way – to buy new clothes and dress up, make gorgeous meals, and fun activities for the kids, it occurs to me that something has been left out.

We are now officially into Easter weekend, and the time to shop for new clothes and lose weight has run out. Many of you are also recently post-partum and there is really nothing that compares to trying to dress up a body that is profoundly out of touch with itself. In my case, I believe that my stomach muscles may have lost their way in the world altogether, nevermore to rig it in.

Well, last night brought about something pretty hilarious at our house. I was sitting on the couch nursing the twins, and my husband and bigger girls were playing with balloons. Read More

Up and running away

Hi there all-

I thought that you might be interested in a new blog Lady Kirkbay

It is an online forum for the women in Christ Church and TRC to talk about the upcoming (October 11) fund-raiser which will include a craft fair. The idea was for a place to post patterns, questions, craft supplies for give away, and anything else potentially craft fair related. We are hoping to see some in process pictures, some “hey what about this” posts, and lots of plain old fun fellowship. Since it can be a little awkward to lug a project to church to ask for feedback, we thought this might be a good way to do it. The local women are all invited to become authors on the blog, and all of you friends out there are invited to come check out what we are working on (you are of course invited to comment!)

Hope you get a kick out of it!

Enough to Go Around

1 / 30 / 081 / 30 / 08
By lizziejank | Filed under Uncategorized | Tags: From (Rachel) Lizzie

I thought I would post a couple things that have been on my mind lately, things that have helped me get that all important right perspective as I fumble (flit? stagger? dream-walk?) through days with a house full of small kids. I know I am not the only one here who is in that situation, so maybe what has been helping me would be of some use to you too.

The first thing, that really is a comfort is this: the only thing that absolutely MUST be organized in our home is my attitude. If that gets a little cluttered, or retains sticky rings from juice with a little dusting from the bottom of the toaster, then all the dry erase boards and fridge cleaning schedules in the world will not make this house fun to be in. On the other hand, if I can keep my attitude stacked in Rubbermaid bins, neatly lableled in the closet, then no matter what is going on in the house, we are doing fine. The kids may be falling apart and needing me all at once, but the only thing separating a clumsy moment Read More
