Please keep praying for Sophia.

I got this update from Sophia’s mom Kelly. Please be praying for her! (To get up to speed on earlier posts, just look under the prayer request category.)
Thank you for asking about Sophia. She came down with a virus this past Lord’s Day – a thick, tight cough which she wasn’t able to move well.  Because of the floppiness of her airway, it’s difficult for her to clear that kind of junk out, and due to the way her respiratory system is compromised, it hits her fast and takes her down quickly .  I was able to take her to the pediatrician right away on Monday and she is on an antibiotic.  She had a bumpy couple of nights at the beginning of the week – but she is improving.  God is merciful!
We will be in Cincinnati on the 25th for pre-op – bloodwork, chest x-ray, EKG, etc.  The surgery will be early on Tuesday.  The surgeon expects she will be released by Friday.  I will be staying in the hospital with her, while Glenn goes back and forth from home for our other children, and his work. Prayer Update

9 / 19 / 109 / 19 / 10
By Nancy Ann | Filed under Uncategorized | Tags: Prayer Requests

Many of you have been praying for Sophia Orr, and I wanted to remind you to specifically pray for her this upcoming week. She’ll have some tests done on September 23 in Cincinnati, including a heart echo, to prepare for her upcoming surgery, which will probably be scheduled for a couple weeks after these tests. I know she and her family would especially appreciate our prayers.

Update on Sophia

8 / 17 / 108 / 17 / 10
By Nancy Ann | Filed under Uncategorized | Tags: Prayer Requests
Many of you have been praying for Sophia Orr and asking how she is doing. Today I received an email from Kelly, and she included an update on Sophia’s condition.  She has been very encouraged by all your comments, and she says, “In fact, we printed out the post offered by one dear saint which included a prayer by Martin Luther.  Glenn has framed it and it is on the counter in the kitchen.  I have read the posts again and again.  We know that people are praying for her, but to be able to read their encouraging words and prayers is truly an overwhelming blessing. “
Here is her note to all of you:
Dear Sisters in Christ,
Words just can’t express our family’s gratitude for your faithful prayers and encouraging words.  I have read your posts on Femina over and over – with tears every time.
Sophia is scheduled for an important scan on August 24th, which should give her doctors needed information to make more definitive plans for opening her airway.   August 27th, we will meet the cardiovascular surgeon, who will be one of the doctors performing her necessary surgery.  We are thankful for how quickly God has moved things along, and we are trusting His providential timing for everything.
Sophia has been her usual sweet self.  She plays with her sisters and brothers, reads, draws, and sings every day.  By evening, she is pale and tired – but still cheerful and happy. Read More

Please Pray With Us

8 / 4 / 108 / 5 / 10

Meet Sophia. Is she too cute or what?

Many of you probably recognize the name Kelly Orr from the comments here on Femina . . . and Sophia is one of her seven gorgeous children (and a twin to boot)!

Sophia was born with only one lung. I’m sure you can all imagine what that has meant in her life – and in the lives of her parents. All the doctors, all the hospitals, all the procedures. When she was a baby, the doctors put in an implant to fill the space in her tiny body that usually would be filled by a second lung – to hold everything in place. It’s worked brilliantly, and Sophia is a sweet, cheerful, active, spunky, normal little girl. But as she’s grown, everything is beginning to shift around again and now her airway is twisted . . . meaning that she’s struggling to get air into the one lung that she does have. The opening to her lung, instead of being round, is now just a slit, and it has become incredibly urgent to get the situation remedied immediately.

This is a very unusual condition, and as you can imagine, it requires seeing the top specialists. Sophia and her parents are traveling tomorrow to Cincinnati, and just the fact that they can get in to see the surgeon there is a huge answer to prayer. He will see her on Friday, and they will then decide how to proceed in this obviously urgent situation.

Please pray for little Sophia, for her parents, and for the all the team of doctors and nurses  who will be handling Sophia’s case. If you leave any comments here, Kelly will see them – and I’m sure she will appreciate knowing that there are people praying. And we’ll keep you updated!
