The Great Pruning of 2010

So we had an exciting wind storm last night….and it turns out that God did a lot of pruning all over town. Behold some of what came down on our kids’ houses. The good news is that no one was hurt. In fact, both the Janks and the Merkles thought the loud crash was thunder! The Janks’ home suffered front porch damage, while the Merkles’ house has a  more serious problem with roof damage as Robinson Restoration reports. Both are rentals, which is nice for them, but hard for their landlords, who are both kind Christian gentlemen. Nate’s house was unscathed, though his car windshield was cracked from the pile of branches that landed on it! We are rejoicing at God’s kindness to us.

First we have a picture of the Merkles’ house:

Though Ben and Bekah have had to move a bunch of their storage out of the room where the roof was damaged, they have been very grateful that the tree did not hit one of the nearby bedrooms! They also had to call professional roof siding contractors to fix the roof immediately.

Then we have a picture of the Wilsons’ car:

A new windshield will be needed. And a car wash would be nice too.

And last, but not least, we have the amazing tree at the Janks’ house! Rachel  has been inundated all day with curious passers-by, tv and news reporters, friendly neighbors, and many of the members of the Christian community who have just stopped in to see if they are okay, or if they need anything. She has been very blessed by all the concern!

  1. I am leaving a comment because I can! YAY! I’ve been reading your posts through my google reader, but dearly missed the kind and familiar voices of the ladies here. Thank you. =)

And oh, I’m so glad to hear that everyone is safe. =)

  2. Wow! It’s humbling to see the power of God displayed in nature like that. We had a tornado here in NYC a few months back and to see huge trees just snapped off was something new!

  3. So glad that no one was hurt!

My Luke (14 yo) thinks that if the Wilson’s had a Chevy, it wouldn’t have had any window damage. 😉

  4. Thank the Lord for Rachel’s big front yard! God knew exactly how much room that tree needed to fall!

  5. Grateful y’all are back online and especially that everyone is safe and sound! I hope the repairs are done well, are timely, and not a distraction from the holidays! 🙂

  6. Bev told me how bad the storm was but seeing the pictures makes me say: “Yikes!” Glad everyone is well. Hope the repairs are all done before any snow hits up there. 🙂

  7. I am so glad everyone is okay. What wind!

I just got Rachel’s book in the mail! Earlier than expected! I am so excited! 🙂
